For International Couples in Japan
Are you frustrated, disappointed, and unhappy with your relationship with your partner and tired of looking for ways to resolve the conflict on your own?
Do you feel lost and confused as to what has gone “wrong” with your relationship, and you don’t know how to “repair” it?
I’m here to help you work through your relationship distress, which can manifest as frequent and intense arguments, lack of communication, difficulties in understanding each other’s needs, and sexual concerns.
Nana no Ki Counseling now offers couple therapy for English-speaking as well as bilingual (English and Japanese) couples living in Japan.

My Couple Therapy Approach
My approach to couple therapy is based on Emotionally Focused Therapy (EFT), in which both a therapist and a couple work together to promote a positive change in the couple’s relationship through:
- identifying and tracking the couple’s interactional patterns (how they get stuck in their negative patterns)
- clarifying and expressing their own attachment needs (such as needs to be close and to be accepted) and vulnerable feelings (such as hurt and sadness) to each other
- fulfilling such needs so that they can create or reclaim the emotional bond and connection that they long for
And I believe that this process will not happen without trust and collaboration among you, your partner, and the therapist.
I also strive to provide culturally sensitive couple therapy.
I offer a free 30-minute pre-counseling session for those who are interested in receiving couple therapy from me. See here to make your free 30-minute appointment.
